Earwigs are usually slender and darker in color and are often identified by our customers as the bug that has “two claw like looking” appendages. Earwigs need moisture or they will dry out and die. Because Arizona is so dry, earwigs nest in areas that are dark and damp such as expansion joints, under rocks, near water spigot step stones and down spout receptacles. They also nest near or in organic matter such as grass and leaf litter, which often receive regular watering.

Earwigs can be difficult to control if not treated properly. Blue Sky uses a truck mounted, gas powered, power sprayer. The power sprayer allows us to penetrate deep to where they nest. Electric power sprayers, backpack sprayers or regular tin can sprayers do not effectively penetrate to these nests. In addition, our premium service includes treatment of possible nesting sites on each visit reducing the likelihood of new earwigs nesting sites becoming established.

After treatment you will normally see an influx of earwigs moving around. Our treatment is disturbing their nesting area. Once disturbed they want to find a new place to hide. As they move the product we use gets on them and over a few days they will die. We tell customers to wait 10-14 days after treatment for this influx of activity to go down. After the 10-14 days, if you are seeing more than 2-3 get inside your home we may need to come back for a free re-service.
